As primary care providers, we can take care of most of your health care needs in our office. However, in order to provide you with the best care possible, we may occasionally recommend that you consult with a specialist.
Obtaining a Referral
You must ALWAYS see a provider in our office before we can write a referral. Many times it turns out that we can take care of the issue here. If it turns out that we can't, we still need to see you to decide which specialist would be most appropriate for your case.
Who You Will See
We have found that coordinating your care with specialists with whom we closely communicate results in better quality of care and increased efficiency. Our referral staff is very knowledgable about the local specialists. She and your provider will choose someone who is most appropriate for your case, is covered by your insurance, and is nearby.
How Quickly
Referrals to specialists can be a time consuming process as often times insurance authorizations require the review of medical records before an appointment can be made, but we do everything we can to assure a fast and smooth referral process. Ideally, you should get a call from us or the specialist's office within 48-72 hours. If you haven't heard back from one of us after 72 hours please call the office at
(615) 826-3101 and we'll make sure the request is being processed. Referrals that need to be done ASAP go to the front of the line and will be handled as quickly as possible.
Ongoing Appointments
If you already have a relationship with a specialist who is caring for you, that's great. Please call us at (615) 826-3101 to let us know when you have an appointment coming up. In order for us to update the referral with your specialist you MUST be seen in our office within the past 6 months or your request will be denied until you are seen by a provider. We need at least 48 hours to process an insurance referral for you. Most specialist require you to have a referral ahead of time. Otherwise, you'll be asked to reschedule.
